Oil and Gas

Projects related to the oil and gas industry have been performed for equipment suppliers, operators, and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The work undertaken has ranged from long term research, through to design assessments, and studies relating to the response of platforms to blast loading.

In undertaking research, Eatec has used many of the techniques with which it has considerable experience and expertise, including:
  Development of measurement systems
Configuring and performing of tests and trials
  Data capture and analysis
Identification of in-service loads and behaviour
  Mathematical modelling
  Neural network modelling
  Finite element analysis
  Computational fluid dynamics
Design assessments have been undertaken for equipment to confirm that it complies with specifications. Generally, this has involved the use of finite element analysis.

Following the Piper Alpha disaster and the subsequent Public Inquiry, on behalf of the HSE, Eatec undertook a programme of work to analyse the response of a typical offshore platform under blast and other dynamic loadings in order to predict the likely accelerations, and to establish whether safety critical equipment would be damaged. The findings and recommendations of this work were published as an HSE report.
